Wednesday (March 8) at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, Florida. The Lakers fall to 4-4 on the season, while Minnesota State improves to 10-4.
Minnesota State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a 2-RBI singles in the top of the second inning. The Mavericks added another run to make it 3-0 in the third off an RBI single to center field.
The Lakers got on the board in the bottom half of the third inning. After back-to-back singles by
Jonas Gulbrandsen and
Connor Schuman,
Spencer Nelson singled to left field scoring Gulbrandsen. GVSU cut it to a one run game in the fifth inning. Gulbrandsen led off the inning and reached base on a Maverick error and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Two batters later,
Justin Mansager doubled down the left field line to score Gulbrandsen.
GVSU outhit Minnesota State 6-4 with six different Laker batters recording a hit.
Jonas Gulbrandsen notched a hit and two runs scored, while
Spencer Nelson and
Justin Mansager each recorded a hit and run batted in.
Owen Avery got the start and suffered the loss after tossing 1.2 innings allowing two runs off one hit.
Nino Puckett pitched 5.1 innings of relief allowing just one run off two hits, while striking out two Maverick batters.
Logan Wynalda threw two scoreless innings of relief allowing just one hit with three strikeouts.
