ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State track and field team traveled to South Bend, Ind. where a small squad of Lakers competed at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Grand Valley State took a combination of distance runners as well as the throws team to compete in the mile, 800m, weight throw and shot put.
Judith Essemiah and
Emma Richards led the women's throws team at the Notre Dame Invitational, where both Lakers claimed a fourth place finish in their respective events. Essemiah recorded a distance of 20.00m to take home fourth in the women's weight throw. Richards placed fourth in the women's shot put with a distance of 14.56m.
On the men's side,
Myles Kerner and
Jacob Urban competed for the Laker's throws team in the men's shot put and men's weight throw. Kerner finished fourth in the men's shot put with a distance of 18.67m. Urban placed eighth in the men's weight throw recording a distance of 19.53m
On the track,
Scott Spaanstra led the Lakers in the 800m finished fourth overall with a time of 1:50.08, shortly behind Louisville (1:49.97).
Caleb Futter competed in the men's mile run finishing in a time of 4:08.72, placing 15
th.
For the women,
Taryn Chapko took home sixth place for the Lakers in the women's 800m crossing the line at 2:07.89.
Klaudia O'Malley finished 10
th overall in the women's mile run with a time of 4:44.35.
The Lakers will be back in Allendale next weekend to host the GVSU Big Meet.
