ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley women's basketball team will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for a one game week, as they take on their GLIAC travel partner Davenport. The game is scheduled for 1:00 pm in the Davenport Student Center.
This will be the second game between these two teams this season, with GVSU winning the first matchup 92-47 back in December. Hannah Kulas led all scorers that game with 17 points, while Hadley Miller, Ellie Droste, and Molly Anderson all had 10 points. The Lakers dominated all game long, as they knocked down 14 threes in the win and forced 22 Panther turnovers. Courtney Sharland deterred everything at the rim, blocking a career-high five shots.
GVSU is back in sole possession of first place in the GLIAC standings at 10-1 after sweeping Purdue Northwest and Parkside last weekend. The Lakers dominated the Pride last Thursday, winning 88-47 behind 15 points from Emily Spitzley and 14 points and nine rebounds from Rylie Bisballe. In the 75-57 victory over Parkside, the Lakers used a big second half, scoring 52 points, to pull away from the Rangers. Nicole Kamin went off for a career-high 20 points, knocking down four three-pointers. Miller, Spitzley, and Bisballe all had 13 points, and the Lakers outrebounded Parkside by 12, 44-32, and forced 17 turnovers.
Davenport is 7-14 overall and 1-10 in conference play, only beating Wayne State at home in overtime. The Panthers play much better at home, as they are 6-4 at their place, but only 1-10 elsewhere. DU is led by Lilee Gustafson, who is nearly averaging a double-double at 14.5 points and 9.4 rebounds this season and has recorded 10 double-doubles this season. Scout Nelson is the next leading scorer at 9.2 points and has dished out a team-leading 60 assists this season. This will be the 14th all-time matchup between these two programs, with GVSU winning the previous 13 by an average margin of 29 points.
