ALLENDALE—The Grand Valley State men's basketball team dropped a matchup with Lake Superior State, 65-57, on Thursday night inside of the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.

GVSU cut the deficit to as little as five in the closing moments of the second half but couldn't overcome a 22-point halftime deficit. The Lakers fell behind in the first half, putting up just 22 first-half points.

Chinedu Kingsley Okanu led GVSU in scoring with 15 points and went 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. Daniel Kiely led the Lakers in rebounding and assists with seven boards and three assists.

Britain Harris was the only other GVSU player to score in double figures. He put up 12 points on a 5-for-8 shooting performance. Harris also led the Lakers with three steals. Kiely added nine points for GVSU as well.

GVSU had 10 steals as a team, which was the first time since Jan. 26 against Purdue Northwest. The Laker bench outscored Lake Superior State's bench, 27-11. GVSU was outrebounded, 45-33, and it moved to 1-5 when it is outrebounded.
