Lakers Start GLIAC Play Friday Versus Davenport

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's basketball team kicks off GLIAC play tomorrow night, welcoming in crosstown foe Davenport to the Fieldhouse Arena. The two rivals will tip-off at 6:00 Friday night.

GVSU is 6-0 entering league play and ranked second nationally following their 68-26 win over D'Youville last Saturday. In that win, the Laker defense held the Saints to 22% shooting from the field and outrebounded them 50-27. Rylie Bisballe had another near double-double, totaling 12 points and eight rebounds, while Paige Vanstee and Molly Anderson each scored 11 points. This season, GVSU is outscoring opponents by 22.5 points and hold an 11.5 rebounding margin as well.
 
In the two matchups last season between the Lakers and Panthers, GVSU won both by the scores of 92-47 and 68-46. In the first win at home, Hadley Miller, Molly Anderson, and Ellie Droste all scored 10 points, and the Lakers forced 22 turnovers to complete the dominant win. On the road, Droste recorded 13 points and Vanstee added 10 points to help GVSU win their 14th straight game against the Panthers.
 
This season, DU is in the second year under head coach Shonda Sanders, and they have kicked off their campaign with a 1-6 record. The Panthers lone win came in a 65-61 victory over Walsh at home. Since that win, they have dropped four straight, including this past Wednesday on the road at Northwood. Center Lillee Gustafson leads the team with 12 points and 8.4 rebounds, shooting 47.2% from the field. The Panthers are only averaging 56.7 points and shooting 34.8% from the field this season.
