Christian McCarroll earned American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-America honors it was announced today.
Carroll, a first-team honoree, anchored the left side of an offensive line that proved to be one of the best in the country. The Laker offense ranked among the national leaders in scoring (46.9 ppg), rushing (235.6 ypg), total offense (446.4 ypg), passing efficiency (162.85), yards per rush (6.1 ypc) and yards per play (7.2 ypp). Carroll has graded out with a 94.7 percent blocking/protection efficiency for the season.
McCarroll, a second-team selection, led all GLIAC defensive lineman with 67 tackles (21 solo/46 assisted), while also leading the GLIAC in tackles for loss with 15.0 (-74) and ranking second in quarterback sacks with 8.0 (-56). He recorded a TFL in nine games and a QB sack in seven games, despite not playing in the second half of two games and the fourth quarter of four additional games. McCarroll was a key figure in a defense that led the nation in QB sacks with 51 and ranks seventh in TFL with 95. The Lakers rank second nationally in rushing defense (59.7 ypg) and allowed just two teams in 13 games to reach the 100-yard rushing mark.
Grand Valley State (11-2) claimed the GLIAC Championship for the second consecutive year (2022 - 2023) and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinal for the second consecutive year.
