Grand Valley State finished 13th with 70 points at the premier D2 regular season event in the country, the Midwest Classic. The Lakers put three wrestlers on the podium and advanced four to the quarterfinal round.
Sophomore
Josh Kenny finished second at 174, dropping the final to sixth-ranked Scotty Joll of UNC-Pembroke. Kenny claimed an impressive 11-5 victory over Wyatt Reisz of Colorado Mines in the semifinal. Freshman
Aaron Lucio finished fifth at 125, recording a fall (0:32) over Luke Acuna of Ashland in the consolation round.
Chris Donathan advanced to the semifinal round with a 4-0 record, but had to default out of the tourney with an injury that prevented him from competing.
Wyatt Miller dropped a consolation match and finished 3-2.
GVSU will next be in action at the Pitt Johnstown Mountain Cat Duals January 6.
