The #20 Grand Valley State men's wrestling team is eighth after day one at the 2024 Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, Indiana with a team score of 60 points. The Lakers, competing for the first time as a varsity sport in 32 years, advanced four wrestlers to Sunday's Championship and consolation round that will begin at 10 am. Lander leads the team race with 83 points, followed by Central Oklahoma (77.5), Chadron State (70) and Mary (69.0). The Midwest Classic features 22 of the top 25 teams in the DII national rankings and 38 teams that received votes in the national poll.
Freshman
Aaron Lucio (125) went 3-0 and advanced to the semifinals with a fall, a major decision and a decision. Sophomore
Chris Donathan (149) went 4-0 en route to his semifinal appearance with a win by default, a tech fall and two decisions. Fellow sophomore,
Josh Kenny (174), also went 4-0 with three tech falls and a 15-8 win in his quarterfinal match. Kenny has outscored his opponents 75-14. Sophomore
Wyatt Miller (197) advanced to the quarterfinals where he dropped a tough 2-1 decision to #2-ranked national wrestler. Miller had recorded two tech falls and a major decision prior to his quarterfinal. Senior
