Box Score COLUMBUS, OHIO – The GVSU women's basketball team was down in Columbus for a nonconference matchup with Ohio State. The Lakers battled hard, but ultimately fell 73-49.
The Lakers were hanging tough for much of the first quarter, trailing just 8-7 at the under five media timeout. From there, the Buckeyes went on a 16-4 run to close out the quarter, leading 24-11.
A three-pointer from
Ellie Droste early in the second quarter made it 26-14 OSU. After five points from the Buckeyes, Droste hit another triple, bringing the Lakers within 14. Ohio State again used a big 12-2 scoring run to close out the half up 43-19.
Coming out of the locker room after the break,
Abrie Cabana hit an early three to cut into the Buckeye lead. The Lakers were able to get to the line throughout the third quarter, getting four free throw makes from
Ava Scanlon and two more from
Megan Crow, as the Lakers trailed 61-32 after three quarters.
GVSU outscored Ohio State 17-12 in the final period. The Lakers scored the first four points of the quarter GVSU continued to get to the line in the fourth, as
Ellie Droste,
Lexi Plitzuweit, and Crow all hit two from the charity stripe.
Avery Zeinstra drilled one from deep as well, as part of her five fourth quarter points.
Ellie Droste led the way with 17 points, hitting two threes along the way.
Megan Crow scored six points and pulled down six boards.
Ava Scanlon tallied six points and seven rebounds. Overall, GVSU outrebounded the Buckeyes 34-30.
