ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State women's soccer team advanced to the GLIAC Tournament semifinals after defeating Davenport 1-0 Monday (Nov. 6) evening in the GLIAC quarterfinal round. The Lakers improve to 11-2-6 on the season and will take on Parkside in the GLIAC semifinals on Friday in Marquette, Michigan.
GVSU outshot Davenport 12-8, 7-2 on goal and produced six corner kicks to the Panthers two. The Lakers broke the tie in the 65
th minute off a penalty inside the box drawn by
Kacy Lauer to set up a penalty kick opportunity.
Taylor Reid stepped up and kicked it home on the bottom right corner of the goal. That was Reid's fourth goal of the season and third over the last two games.
Alli French and
Ella Kleiver each led GVSU with three shots all on goal. Reid added two shots including her second game winning goal of the season. Five Laker field players saw all 90 minutes of action in the win.
Isabel Imes got the start in goal and posted her fifth shutout of the season notching two saves.
The Lakers will take on Parkside in the GLIAC Tournament semifinal round in Marquette, Michigan on the campus of Northern Michigan. The game time has yet to be announced.
