ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State women's soccer team closes out the regular season tomorrow (Nov. 2) night at home against Davenport. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM under the lights at the GVSU Soccer Field.
The Lakers are 9-2-6 on the season and sit in second place in the GLIAC with a 7-1-5 mark. GVSU can still finish in first place with a win over Davenport and a loss by Northern Michigan against Michigan Tech on Thursday.
GVSU is coming off of a 4-1 win vs Purdue Northwest.
Ryann Fetty notched the game-winning goal and dished out an assist, earning the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Kacy Lauer scored her third goal off a penalty kick and notched one assist in the win. Lauer now leads the team in scoring with four goals and three assists for 11 points.
The Lakers and Panthers meet tomorrow for the second time this season. The last time these two teams faced each other was in Caledonia where GVSU defeated Davenport 2-1.
Claire Breault scored the game-winning goal in the 87
th minute for her first career goal as a Laker. GVSU now leads the all-time series 10-0-0 against Davenport.
Davenport enters the final game of the regular season with a 5-5-6 overall record and 2-5-6 GLIAC mark. The Panthers are coming off a pair of draws against Purdue Northwest and Parkside last weekend.
The Panthers are led by junior forward Haley Diekevers who ranks second in the GLIAC with 16 points. Diekevers has scored six goals and dished out four assists with two game-winning goals. Freshman forward Madison Fant has scored five goals and dished out two assists for 12 points on the season. Fant is tied for the team lead with two game-winning goals. Senior goalkeeper Gabriana Bennecke has appeared in 12 games making 11 starts in goal for the Panthers. Bennecke has posted a 4-5-3 record making 44 saves.
