ALLENDALE, MICH. – It was another perfect weekend for the GVSU women's volleyball team as they picked up another sweep, this time taking down Wayne State. The Lakers won their eighth straight victory and moved to 14-1 on the year.
Set one was tied at four early on, but then the Lakers came to life, rattling off a 15-4 run to take control and cruise to a 25-12 set one win. Set two saw the Lakers get out in front early, going up 9-1 and never letting the Warriors back in the set, winning 25-11. Wayne State went up early in set three, going up 6-2, before GVSU came back to eventually tie it at nine. They continued that run to go up 18-12, and withstood a late Warrior run to come away with the 25-20 win.
Jordyn Gates led the way with 15 kills, while adding 16 assists, six digs, and four total blocks.
Sarah Wight had eight kills and four blocks, with
Brianna Stawski having seven kills and five blocks and
Kendall Stover also had seven blocks.
Rachel Jacquay had a team-high 22 assists and
Julia Blaney had 14 digs.

The Lakers go down to Hammond, Indiana for the Midwest Regional Crossover Tournament next Friday and Saturday, with matchups to be announced next week.
