Men's Tennis Sweeps Aquinas College 7-0

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Grand Valley State Men's Tennis swept Aquinas College 7-0 Friday afternoon at the GVSU Tennis Courts.

The Lakers (1-0) did not drop a set, dominating the Saints (0-2) by winning 90 of the 107 games played.

Freshman Stephen Claasen produced a double bagel. Freddy Cossio and Sean Miller, both of whom are Seniors, also picked up bagels in their matches. Cossio won 6-1, 6-0 on the No.3 line. Miller dominated the No.1 line with a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

Grand Valley State head coach Samantha Barr said it's nice to see her team stay focused as they continue to dominate over the course of their match.
"Even though that was a comfortable win for them, it's still a good level for them to maintain and keep that even without letting your opponent one game."
Sophomore Denys Zamaraiev scored a 6-2, 6-2 victory on the No.2 line. Junior Ignasi Garros won 6-1, 6-2 on the No.4 line. Finishing off the sweep was Freshman Lawrence Ivanov with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

The Lakers also dominated the doubles point, winning all three matches. Miller and Ivanov produced a bagel on the No.2 line. Victor Lopes and Chimo Minguez, both of whom are Juniors, won the No.1 line with a 6-3 victory. Garros teamed up with Sophomore Patricio Sepulveda to win the No.3 line by a 6-2 tally.

The men's tennis team's match scheduled for the evening against Cornerstone was cancelled due to inclement weather. Grand Valley State will continue the Fall season Oct. 14 against Grace Christian. Matches will commence 11 a.m. at the GVSU Tennis Courts.
