PREVIEW: No. 10 Women’s Soccer Travels to Davenport Friday

ALLENDALE – The No. 10 Grand Valley State women's soccer team is set to close out the first half of the GLIAC schedule when they travel to Davenport for the crosstown showdown Friday (Oct. 6) at 4:00 PM.

The Lakers enter Friday with a 6-1-3 overall record and sit in first place in the GLIAC with a 4-0-2 mark. GVSU traveled to the U.P. last weekend and played Northern Michigan to a scoreless draw before defeating Michigan Tech 2-0. Junior goalkeeper Kendall Robertson was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week after posting a seven save shutout in the win over Michigan Tech. Robertson's seven saves are a season high and she notched her second shutout of the season. Senior Mackenzie Jones scored the game-winning goal for her first of the season against the Huskies, while sophomore Kacy Lauer notched a penalty kick goal for her third of the season and second off a penalty kick. 
 
Junior Emma Chudik leads the Lakers this season with five goals and 10 points. Chudik notched a hat trick at Purdue Northwest and scored the game-winning goal at Parkside. Kacy Lauer has tallied three goals and dished out one assist for seven points this season. Lauer has seen all 90 minutes of action in five games and eight games with at least 80 minutes played. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Isabel Imes ranks first in the GLIAC with a 0.40 goals-against average and two goals allowed this season. Imes has made five starts in goal, posting a 3-0-2 record with 10 saves. 
 
Davenport enters Friday with a 4-2-3 overall record. The Panthers are currently in fifth place in the GLIAC with a 1-2-3 mark. Last weekend Davenport traveled to the U.P. and tied Michigan Tech 1-1 before falling 3-0 to Northern Michigan. 
 
Junior Haley Diekevers leads the Panthers with four goals and two assists for 10 points on the season. Diekevers has notched a game-winning goal and also leads the team with 15 shots on goal. Freshman Madison Fant has scored four goals and dished out one assist for nine points on the season. Fant leads the Panthers with two game-winning goals. Senior goalkeeper Gabriana Bennecke has started in all eight games in net posting four clean sheets and 30 saves.
