ALLENDALE – The No. 20 Grand Valley State women's soccer team scored three goals in the second half to down Purdue Northwest 4-1 Sunday (Oct. 27) afternoon at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers improve to 9-2-6 on the season and 7-1-5 in the GLIAC.
The Lakers got off to a fast start scoring 45 seconds into the game.
Taylor Reid was fouled in the box resulting in a Laker penalty kick.
Kacy Lauer stepped up and scored her fourth goal of the season and third off a penalty kick. Later in the first half, Purdue Northwest tied the game at one off a shot from just outside the top of the box.
GVSU began the second half notching seven shots in the first ten minutes with two on goal. The Lakers would regain the lead in the 61
st minute off the foot of
Ryann Fetty. Reid placed a great insert into the box after she received a pass from Lauer. Fetty was there to kick it home with the right foot into the top right of the goal. That goal was Fetty's second of the season.
Four minutes later in the 65
th minute,
Ella Kleiver put the Lakers up two goals off a beautiful pass by
Abby Winn. Kleiver scored her third goal of the season and Winn picked up her second assist.
Alicia White put the game out of reach in the 78
th minute off her first goal of the season to make it 4-1. White made a good run at the ball off a pass by Fetty and was able to beat the defender and kick it past the goalkeeper at the low left corner of the goal.
Lauer and Fetty led the Lakers with a goal and assist each. Lauer notched three shots with two on goal, while Fetty had two shots with one on goal. White notched three shots with one on goal in 49 minutes of play, while Reid added an assist with a season high seven shots with three on goal.
Mackenzie Ford was the only Laker field player to play all 90 minutes in the win.
Isabel Imes got the start in goal and made one save.
