BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 20 Grand Valley State women's soccer team earned a big 2-1 road win at Ferris State Sunday (Oct. 22) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 8-2-5 on the season and 6-2-4 in the GLIAC, while the Bulldogs fall to 5-6-4, 3-5-3 in the GLIAC.
The Lakers got off to a fast start and found the back of the net in the 5
th minute for an early 1-0 lead.
Ella Kleiver made a great pass to
Ryann Fetty who took a shot from just outside the box that just went over the stretching arms of the goalkeeper at the top right corner of the goal. That goal was Fetty's first of the season, while Kleiver notched her first collegiate assist.
The Lakers would continue to dominate pressure and would find the back of the net again in the 26
th minute to increase the lead to 2-0.
Kacy Lauer sent in a great insert from the right side for
Avery Lockwood to kick it home at the front post for her second goal of the season.
In the second half, Ferris State earned a free kick opportunity from just outside the box in the 59
th minute. The Bulldogs got a great shot off, but
Kendall Robertson made a great save to keep the Lakers up two goals. Later in the 68
th minute, Ferris State would find the back of the net off a corner kick insert to cut the Laker lead to one.
Both teams would get two shot each the rest of the way with the Lakers getting the only one on goal as they would hang on for the 2-1 win. The Lakers outshot the Bulldogs 14-8, 7-4 on goal, while corner kicks were even at three.
Avery Lockwood notched her second game-winning goal of the season which is the most on the team and added two shots.
Ella Kleiver led the team with two shots on goal and dished out an assist.
Ryann Fetty scored her first goal of the season and notched two shots.
Isabel Imes got the start in goal and made one save.
Kendall Robertson went in goal in the second half and made two saves.
The Lakers will be back home next weekend when they host Parkside on Friday (Oct. 27) for senior night at 7:00 PM before hosting Purdue Northwest on Sunday (Oct. 29) at 1:00 PM.
