Lakers Sweep the GLIAC Championships

HOUGHTON, MICHIGAN – The Grand Valley State men's and women's cross country teams dominated the GLIAC Championships on Saturday, October 21st in Houghton, Mich. as they claimed their 21st (men) and 22nd (women) consecutive conference title. The Lakers finished with a combined total of 19, earning Grand Valley State 15 First Team All-GLIAC honors. 
 
The Grand Valley State women's squad brought home their 22nd consecutive GLIAC Championship title after finishing with another repeat perfect score of 15 points. This is now the third time in Grand Valley State women's program history as well as the fourth time in GLIAC history that a team has scored a perfect 15 at the GLIAC Championships. The Lakers previously achieved this accomplishment in 2021 and 2022. 
 
The women dominated the Top 10 claiming eight spots overall including the Top 7 finishes. Natalie Graber led the team to victory claiming her second consecutive individual GLIAC title with a time of 20:58.7, earning herself the honors of GLIAC Women's Runner of the Year.
 
 Ana Tucker added onto the Lakers' perfect score as she finished second in a time of 21:06.4, followed by Klaudia O'Malley in third with a time of 21:15.5. Taryn Chapko finished in fourth in a time of 21:26.5, while Lauren Kiley rounded out the Lakers' perfect score in fifth recording a time of 21:27.4.
 
The women's squad raced 12 runners at this year's GLIAC Championships and finished with all 12 runners in the Top 30, with the last runner placing 28th.
 
The Grand Valley State men's team claimed their 21st consecutive GLIAC Championship title with an overall score of 21 points, recording seven runner in the Top 10. Caleb Futter battled it out until the end, falling just shy of first place by a single second, claiming a second place finish in a time of 24:20.0.
 
 Elias Bergman, Koby Fraaza and Cal Yackin finished back-to-back to-back, taking over the remainder of the Top 5. Bergman placed third with a time of 24:26.1 followed by Fraaza in fourth with a time of 24:36.2 and Yackin in fifth recording a time of 24:38.4. Brock Wooderson rounded out the Laker men's score as he finished in seventh in a time of 24:45.8. 
 
The men's squad competed with 12 runners at the GLIAC Championships and finished with all 12 runners in the Top 20, with the last runner finishing in 25th.
 
Conor Somers and Allie Arnsman were awarded the GLIAC Freshman of the Year for their respective teams. Somers finished in eighth place for the Laker men in a time of 24:48.7, while Arnsman claimed ninth place on the women's side with a time of 21:39.3.
 
The Grand Valley State Coaching Staff was named the Men's and Women's GLIAC Coaching Staff of the Year. 
 
The Lakers will compete next at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships in Evansville, Indiana on Saturday, November 4th
