ALLENDALE – The No. 9 Grand Valley State women's soccer team returned home and played to a 1-1 draw Friday (Oct. 13) night against Michigan Tech. The Lakers move to 7-1-4 on the season and 5-0-3 in the GLIAC.
GVSU outshot the Huskies 19-8 and 13-3 on goal. The Lakers also produced nine corner kicks to Michigan Tech's three. The two teams played a scoreless first half with the Lakers notching nine shots all on goal.
In the second half, freshman
Ella Kleiver put the Lakers in front in the 64
th minute for her second goal of the season. Kleiver made a good run on the ball and got past the defender to finish it with the left foot at the bottom right corner of the goal. Sophomore
Sophia Morgan and junior
Stephanie Sturgeon picked up the assists. Michigan Tech would tie the game at one off a late goal in the 80
th minute off a rebound in the box.
Kleiver and
Taylor Reid led the Lakers with three shots, while Kleiver notched two on goal.
Alicia White,
Avery Lockwood, and
Alli French each recorded two shots on goal.
Mackenzie Jones and
Daan Louwerse saw all 90 minutes of action.
Isabel Imes got the start in goal for the Lakers and made two saves.
