Grand Valley Puts On A Show At Mike Lints Alumni Open

Eli Kosiba Breaks School High Jump Record For Second Time This Season

01.21.2023

ALLENDALE, MICH. – Grand Valley State junior, Eli Kosiba, broke the Grand Valley State school record in the men's high jump on Saturday, January 21rd at the annual Mike Lints Alumni Open with a personal-best height of 2.23m. The previous Grand Valley State school record was set by Kosiba earlier this season at the Holiday Open on December 9th, where he reached a height of 2.20m. In addition, Kosiba surpassed the NCAA Division II provisional mark of 2.03m, making this his second time in the season to qualify.

Head Coach Jerry Baltes stated, "We had some very solid performances across all of our events.
With the highlight being the men's high jump. Jay Jay Rakins had a great jump over 2.12 meters- to set up 2 more great bars for Eli Kosiba on the way to breaking his previous school and the best jump on the national list. Eli's performance was outstanding, but he knows, and we know he has more in the tank. His performance is a credit to Coach Jones setting the tone for him and the entire jumps squad. In addition, the great training partnership that Eli and Jay Jay have with each other and the rest of the jumps squad is superb."

Grand Valley State ended the day with 14 first place finishes and 17 NCAA Division II provisional marks out of the 24 events they participated in.

In the field, the Lakers claimed first in the men's high jump, pole vault, long jump and shot put. James Nutt earned first place in addition to a NCAA provisional mark in the men's pole vault clearing a height of 4.76m. On the throws team, Myles Kerner took home first place in the men's shot put invite, throwing a distance of 18.24m.

On the women's side, Grand Valley State dominated in the pole vault event, earning four of the Top 5 spots. Kassidie Stimmel led the Lakers with a first-place finish clearing a height of 3.90m followed by Kaylee Koch with a height of 3.75m, both women cleared the provisional mark of 3.68m.
