ALLENDALE, MICH. – After 12 games on the road to start the season, the Grand Valley women's volleyball team is coming home for the first time this year. The Lakers will take on Davenport in the Crosstown Showdown on Tuesday night at 7pm.
Through four games of GLIAC play, the Lakers are tied for third place with Northern Michigan at 3-1 and 9-3 overall, while Davenport is right behind them in fifth place with a 2-2 record in the conference and are currently 9-4 overall.
Grand Valley is coming into this game on a roll, sweeping this past weekend with a 3-0 win over Purdue-Northwest on Friday and then a 3-1 victory over Parkside on Saturday.
Savannah Thompson had a big weekend, tallying 25 kills and 34 assists while swinging at a .313 clip.
Jordyn Gates recorded her third triple-double of the season in the win over Parkside, and now leads the team in assists (226) and digs (167).
Sarah Wight did it both offensively and defensively over the weekend, notching 18 kills and seven blocks.
The Panthers enter the match off a 1-1 weekend, after getting swept by Saginaw Valley before bouncing back the following day to sweep Wayne State. Returning All-American and First-Team All-GLIAC member Hayley Kreiger is once again the focal point of the Panthers, leading the team, and sits second in the conference, in points (214.5) and kills (193), all with a hitting percentage of .253. Lexie Beeke controls the game for DU, as she is sixth in the conference with 284 assists. Defensively, Kenzy Corstange is second in the GLIAC with 232 digs and Bethany Wilson leads the team with 34 blocks.
