ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's track and field team claimed their 22nd consecutive GLIAC Outdoor Championship win on Friday, May 6 scoring 249.50 points. The men's team won their 4th consecutive outdoor win with a dominating 302 points.Â
Freshman
Brandon Miller broke the conference and school record in the 200m dash clocking in a time of 20.79. Miller's time is currently the fifth fastest time this season in DII. Miller also ran anchor in the 4x400m relay bringing his team into first place with a time of 3:16.91. He won his third first-place medal of the championships in the 4x100m relay with a time of 41.15 and was named GLAIC Freshman Track Athlete of the Meet. In the men's 400m,
Caelon Harkey finished first with a time of 48.07, followed by
Myles Rhodes in second (48.42).
Isabel Abdouch placed second in the women's 400m dash with a personal-best time of 57.53. Abdouch ran third in the 4x100m relay with
Corrina Courser, Timia Robinson, and
Melia Williams finishing second with a time of 48.04.Â
Jump the hurdles into first-place,
Makiyah Smallwood finished first in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.56.Â
Corrina Courser placed second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.46, Courser ran a qualifying time of 13.91 in the prelims and is currently ranked 14th in the Nation.
Brooke Barkocy and
Madelyn Allman finished second (1:03.54) and third (1:04.11) in the 400m hurdles, respectively. Â
Steven Harris won the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 54.24.Â
In the women's 1500m,
Allie Ludge,
Klaudia O'Malley, and
Jessica Gockley placed first, second, and third with
Kayce Rypma in fourth leaving no doubt the event belongs to the Laker women. Ludge won the event clocking in a time of 4:33.65, O'Malley second 4:34.12, and Gockley in third 4:35.46. GLIAC Track Athlete of the Year,
Isaac Harding placed second in the men's 1500m with a time of 3:48.53. Â GV won both the men's and women's 800m with John Greondyk taking over the men's race in the last 50 meters and clocking in at 1:50.83.
Morgan Fuerst won the women's race with a time of 2:13.21., in the prelims Fuerst ran a personal-best time of 2:11.04.Â
Enael Woldemichael won the men's 5000m with a time of 14:39.13,
Andrew Hylen placed third clocking in at 14:46.90.
Sarah May placed third in the women's race with a time of 17:30.79.Â
The Laker's field event teams continue to rule the conference with
Emma Richards,
Erika Beistle, and Elizabeth Plyes taking the top three spots in the women's discus throw. Richards won the event throwing 49.15m, Beistle finished second (48.88m), and Pyles third throwing 44.43m.  Biestle was named GLIAC Freshman Athlete of the Meet. Richards also finished first in the women's shot put with a distance of 14.81m,Â
Mackenzie Bohrer placed third at 13.78m. Richards two first-place finishes won her the title of GLIAC Field Athlete of the Year.Â
Myles Kerner placed first in shot put with a distance of 18.87m.
Matt Thomas placed third with a distance of 17.64m. Kerner also placed third in the discus throw with a distance of 47.96m.
Jumping into first,
Mac Mitchell took the podium after winning his second consecutive GLIAC Outdoor Championship in the men's triple jump with a personal-best distance of 14.36m.
Jenna Doyle won the the women's high jump clearing the bar at a height of 1.66m.Â
Carly Livingston took home her first first-place championship medal winning the women's pole vault with a height of 3.94m. In all, the Lakers claimed a combined 23 first-place finishes, and 47 top-three finishes to claim both the men's and women's conference title.Â
The Lakers will next host the Last Chance Meet on May 10 allowing athletes one last chance to make it into the National Championships. GVSU host the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships on May 26-28.Â
