CALEDONIA, Mich. – The No. 24 Grand Valley State Lakers earned their second straight GLIAC doubleheader sweep, taking a pair from the Davenport Panthers Tuesday (April 5) afternoon on the road. The Lakers won game one, 2-0, then got a 6-2 win in game two to improve to 21-4 overall and 6-2 in conference play. The Lakers return home Thursday (April 7) to host Parkside at 3 PM.
The Lakers scored the only runs of game one in the fifth inning when
Joanna Cirrincione tripled to the wall in left field to drive home
Megan Koenigshof, then scored herself when the throw to third skipped past the bag. That was plenty for
Hannah Beatus (W, 10-1), who got her fourth win in as many GLIAC starts with a three-hit shutout while striking out seven and walking one.
After Davenport manufactured a first-inning run in game two, the Lakers took the lead for good in the third.
Morgan Wagner unloaded the bases with a double, then scored herself on an RBI-double by
Kelsey Komorous.
Lydia Goble plated Cirrincione with a sacrifice fly in the fourth to add to the lead.
Genesis Eggart (W, 6-1) hurled her second straight complete-game win, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out three.
