ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 10 Grand Valley State softball team swept a doubleheader from the Northwood Timberwolves Sunday (April 3) at the GVSU Softball Field. The Lakers took game one, 4-1, then earned a 2-0 shutout win in game two. The Lakers improve to 19-4 overall and 4-2 in GLIAC play.
The Lakers struck for a first-inning lead in game one when
Morgan Wagner singled through the left side to bring
Joanna Cirrincione around to score. Cirrincione would double the lead herself, stealing home in the third. The Lakers tacked on two insurance runs in the home sixth on a two-out, two-run single by
Megan Koenigshof.
Hannah Beatus allowed one unearned run in the complete-game win (9-1). She allowed three hits and a walk while striking out six in her third win of the week.
The Lakers scored both game two runs in the fifth inning. With two on and one out, the Timberwolves intentionally walked Goble to load the bases for Wagner, who made them pay with a single through the left side to plate a pair.
Genesis Eggart (W, 5-1) hurled a complete-game shutout, scattering three singles and a hit batter while striking out five and not issuing a walk.
The Lakers are back in action for a pair of midweek doubleheaders, beginning Wednesday (April 6) when they travel across town to face Davenport at 3:30 PM. Follow @GVSUSoftball on social media for live updates and coverage links.
