WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The seventh-ranked Grand Valley State softball team won their ninth straight game to start the 2022 season Tuesday (March 8), beating Bloomfield College 9-0 at the Diamondplex on day three of their spring trip.
Hannah Dieck (W, 2-0) threw a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits and carrying a no-hitter until one out in the sixth inning. She struck out three and scattered four walks.
The Lakers got her a lead in the second inning when
Kaitlin Lynch drew a bases-loaded walk to plate a run.
Morgan Spicer would double the lead in the fifth when she roped a triple down the right field line to chase home
Hannah Hollister.
A two-run double from
Taylor Rieger capped a five-run sixth inning to break the game open. Spicer,
Morgan Wagner and
Megan Koenigshof all drove in runs in the frame before the Lakers added two unearned runs in the seventh for good measure.
The Lakers, who had their first game of the day canceled due to field conditions after last night's rain, are off Wednesday (March 9) and resume action Thursday for games against Southern New Hampshire (10 AM) and Millersville (12:15 PM).
