No. 7 Softball wins two more Thursday, now 11-0 to start 2022

Lakers down Southern New Hampshire, 9-0, and Millersville, 1-0

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The seventh-ranked Grand Valley State softball team won two more games Thursday (March 10) with a 9-0 win over Southern New Hampshire then 1-0 victory over Millersville in the second game at the Diamond Plex. The Lakers improve to 11-0 to start their season.

Game one saw the Lakers strike early and often, racking up 14 hits while striking out just once. Joanna Cirrincione led the offensive attack with three hits, a trio of RBI and two runs scoring and Lydia Goble had three hits, a run driven in and two scored.

The Lakers wasted little time, scoring a run in the top of the first on a Morgan Wagner RBI single to plate Goble. GVSU would erupt for five runs in the second, getting RBI from Kelsey Komorous and Hannah Hollister plus a two-run double from Cirrincione.

The Lakers would tack on another in the sixth on Komorous' second RBI single of the day, then back-to-back doubles from Cirrincione and Goble plated two more in the seventh to round out the scoring.
Genesis Eggart (W, 4-0) struck out 13 as she carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning of her complete-game shutout. She walked five and allowed two hits, both in the seventh, but stranded the bases loaded with back-to-back strikeouts to slam the door and preserve the shutout.

Hannah Beatus (W, 5-0) kept the strikeout theme going in the second game of the day, matching a career high with 14 as she hurled a complete-game shutout while scattering three walks and two hits.

The Lakers used small ball to break the scoreless tie in the sixth. Komorous doubled with one out, then Alexis McCullough ran for her and was able to tag for third on a flyout by Wagner. Hollister came through with a two-out single to plate what would prove to be the winning run.

The Lakers are back in action Friday (March 11) as they face Lake Erie at 3:45 PM and Nova Southeastern at 6 PM. Follow gvsulakers.com or @GVSUSoftball on social media for live updates and coverage links.
