GLIAC – Three members of the Grand Valley State men's basketball team have earned all-conference honors from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) for the 2021-22 season.
Jake Van Tubbergen earned first team honors while
Christian Negron is a second team selection and member of the All-Defensive team.
Deleon Brown was also named to the All-Defensive team.
Van Tubbergen ends his career as a five-time All-GLIAC performer, four of which on the first team. He averaged 17.2 points and a league-best 10.6 rebounds per game this season. Van Tubbergen was the 2017 GLIAC Freshman of the Year back in 2017, earned the program's first NABC All-American honors in a decade for the 2018-19 season, leading the Lakers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2010.
Negron averaged 11.5 points and 7.9 rebounds, while leading the GLIAC with a .667 field goal percentage. He ranks third in the GLIAC in blocks with 45 on the year and also had 29 steals on the season. Negron was an All-GLIAC in all three seasons in Allendale while going three-for-three as a defensive team selection.
Brown was often tasked with locking down the opponent's best scorer and night-in and night-out held them well below their season average. When he went down with a groin injury in February, the Laker defense suffered and his absence was obvious. Brown, who started the season limited with a lingering knee injury from the end of last season, played in 21 games and started 16, averaging 9.8 points per game.
The Lakers went 17-11 on the season, earning the five-seed in the GLIAC Tournament but falling in the quarterfinal on the road to Saginaw Valley.
