Laker Men continue to Break School Records

ALLENDALE, Mich. -  Isaac Harding and Tanner Chada became the first men in DII to qualify for Nationals in the 10,000m finishing 10th (28:25.98) and 13th (28:64.14) at the Raleigh Relays in a field of over 120 athletes. Harding's time breaks the school-record set by Zach Panning in 2019 (28:30.77). Jessica Gockley placed 14th at the Raleigh Relays in the women's 10,000m with a personal-best time of 33:51.68 and became the first woman in the 10,000m to qualify for Nationals. Gockley's time is the second-fastest time in school history. The Grand Valley State men's 4x400m relay team of Caelon Harkey, Jackson Blanchard, Brandon Miller, and Myles Rhodes finished 16th at the Texas Relays on Friday, March 25 clocking in a school-record time of 3:09.65. The Lakers have achieved 21 provisional marks throughout the three meets this weekend.

The Lakers distance crew came out strong in the highly anticipated and competitive Raleigh Relay. In a field of over 200 athletes in the women's 1500m, Allie Ludge placed 31st with a time of 4:23.57. Klaudia O'Malley placed 41st clocking in a time of 4:26.59 followed by Taryn Chapko in 67th with a time of 4:29.08.  Kayce Rypma ran a personal-best time of 35:06.87 in the women 10,000m finishing 46th. John Groendyk placed 68th in the men's 1500m with a time of 3:49.02. 

In Texas, Eli Kosiba and Jonathan Rankins-James started the outdoor season clearing a national qualifying height of 2.10m in the high jump placing fifth and eighth, respectively. Makiyah Smallwood placed sixth out of 50 athletes in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.40. Jackson Blanchard placed 9th in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 51.24. In shot put, Matt Thomas placed fifth with a distance of 17.49m. On the women's side, Emma Richards finished 11th (14.09m).  Richards then made her way over to the Bobcats Invitational where she placed fifth in the discus throw (47.55m). Elizabeth Pyles placed third in discus throw with a distance of 48.90m. Indoor National Champion, Judith Essemiah moves from the weight throw to the hammer throw. Essemiah starts the season off ranked second in the nation after placing third with a distance of 59.69m at the Bobcat Invitational.  Hunter Harding placed fourth in the men's hammer throw with a distance of 61.02m. 

The Final Day of Relays starts at 10:30 a.m. (EST) at the Texas Relays, 9:45 a.m. at the Raleigh Relays, and 11:00 a.m. at the Bobcat Invitationals.
