GVSU Women’s Basketball Comes in as No. 2 seed in NCAA Elite Eight

Lakers Travel to Birmingham, Alabama to Play at Bill Harris Arena

The No. 6 Grand Valley State women's basketball team advanced to the NCAA DII Elite Eight after defeating Walsh University last night in the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship. The 30-2 Lakers will play in the DII women's basketball Elite Eight, which will take place from March 21-25 at the Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. 

The GVSU Lakers come in as the No. 2 seed in the Elite Eight and will match up with No. 7 seed Missouri Western State out of St. Joseph, Missouri. The Lakers and Griffons will play on Monday, March 21, 2:30 p.m. CST (3:30 p.m. EST). Ticket information can be found here.

The Lakers claimed the NCAA Midwest Regional Title after taking down Walsh in a 64-61 victory at Ashland University. Freshman Ellie Droste led the Lakers with 19 points and was selected as the Regional Tournament MVP, with junior teammate Emily Spitzley also earning All-Tournament Team honors. The 24-9 Missouri Western Griffons come in as the No. 7 seed after defeating the No. 4 team in the country, Fort Hays State, 70-69 in the NCAA Central Region Championship.
