Lakers Finish Second at the Spring Fling

Desert Palm, CALIF. - The Grand Valley State women's golf team completed Day Two of the Augustana Spring Fling in second place on Saturday, March 12. The Lakers shot a total of 18 birdies for the day, four from the individuals. The Laker women started the season of strong with all seven women placing within the top-20.  The team ends the two day tournament at 36-over par (612).  

Leading the Lakers this season, Julia Sanchez tied for third place carding 152 ( +8). Sanchez shot four birdies in the second round but was set back by a  double bogey on the eight hole par 3 moving her down from first to third. Olivia Stoll finished in fifth with a score of +9 (153). Megan Miron and Paula Badino moved their way up the list shooting four birdies in the second round, with Miron sinking three birdie in a row moving her into tied for sixth with a score of 155 (+11). Badino moved up 12 spots from day one after hitting three birdies in the back nine and scoring the lowest round of golf by any golfer in the tournament 72 (E). Badino ended the two day tournament 12-over par (156). 

Rounding out the team's score, Kay Zubkus ends the season opener in 11th carding 15-over par (159). 

Competing individually,  Arna Run Kristjandottir moved her way up 16 spots to finish tied for 14th carding 160 (+16). In her second round, Kristjandottir tied the second best score of the tournament putting in two birdies and shooting even par on 14 holes (73). Martina Biancuzzo finished 19th scoring 161 (+21). 

The Lakers will next travel to Lexington, Kentucky to compete at the Findlay Spring invitational on March 21 -22.
