ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's track and field team claimed their 23rd consecutive GLIAC Indoor Championships title, winning every year since 2000. The men's team won their fifth consecutive GLIAC Championships, 21st since 2000. The women won with 248.50 points, Saginaw Valley finished second with 130.50 points, and Wayne State in third with 75 points. On the men's side, the Lakers won with 257 points, more than 140 points from second place Northwood (116). Davenport placed third with 104 points. Combined, the Laker men and women claim 22 first-place finishes throughout the two day championships meet.Â

DistanceÂ
Klaudia O'Malley got things started for the Lakers on Day Two winning the women's mile with a time of 4:45.41,
Allie Ludge placed second with a time of 4:47.50. O'Malley was named GLIAC Track Athlete of Year. In the men's mile,
Caleb Futter stopped the clock at 4:06.30 finishing first.Â
Taryn Chapko kept things going in the 800m finishing first with a time of 2:10.08, followed by
Cameron Cleveland in third with a time of 2:12.03.
Dennis Mbuta and
Scott Spaanstra ran a close race finishing first and second in the men's 800m. Mbuta won the race with a time of 1:50.05, followed by Spaanstra in second with a time of 1:50.64.Â
In the 3000m,
Jessica Gockley came back to win her second distance event at the 2022 GLIAC Indoor Championships. Gockley finished first with a personal-best time of 9:25.85 and moved up from 26th to fifth in the Nation. Gockley also won the 5000m race on Day One and is now ranked sixth with a time of 16:29.42.  Also making their onto the podium, Grace Pagone placed second in the 3000m with a time of 9:47.37, followed by
Landyn Howell in third with a time of 9:54.35.Â
Junior
Tanner Chada ran a season-best time of 7:57.45 in the men's 3000m to claim first-place. Chada is now fifth in the DII Nation, up from 22nd.Â
Sprints / Hurdles
Corrina Courser and Brooke Barkocy scored 16 points for the Laker  finishing first and third in the women's 60m hurdles. Courser won with a personal-best time of 8.78, and Barkocy placed third with a personal-best time of 8.81.
Makiyah Smallwood and
Jackson Blanchard finished second and third on the men's side with Smallwood clocking in a time 7.94, Blanchard finished with a time of 8.15.Â
Senior
Caelon Harkey won the men's 400m dash with a time of 48.03, Blanchard claimed his second GLIAC medal finishing third with a time of 48.33. For the women, freshman
Isabel Abdouch earned her first GLIAC Championships medal after placing third in the 400m with a time of 59.02.Â
Freshman
Brandon Miller continues to break the school record in the 200m for the fourth time this season. Miller finished first with a personal-best time of 21.20, and is now seventh in the Nation heading towards Nationals in two weeks. He was also named the Freshman Track Athlete of the Meet.Â
Caelon Harkey earned his second medal of the day by placing third with a time of 21.81.Â
ThrowsÂ
Junior
Emma Richards won the women's shot put with a personal- best distance of 15.42m and holds her spot as fourth in the Nation. Freshman
Mackenzie Bohrer placed third with a distance of 14.16m. The men's team took first and second in the shot put with
Myles Kerner putting a distance of 19.12m. Kerner was named Field Athlete of the Meet.
 Matt Thomas placed second in shot put with a distance of 18.29m.Â
JumpsÂ
Freshman,
Jonathan Rankins-James jumped ahead of the group today to claim his first GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships first-place medal. Rankins-James cleared a personal-best height of 2.16m,
Eli Kosiba placed second with a height of 2.06m, and was named Field Athlete of the Year. Kosiba holds onto his second place ranking in the Nation after clearing 2.19m early this year at the Big Meet - Friday. Rankins-James moves up to tie for fourth in the Nation. Â For the women,
Jenna Doyle placed second with a personal-best height of 1.68m.Â
Mac Mitchell jumped a personal-best distance of 14.33m in the men's triple jump to claim first-place, Mitchell was also the defending 2021 triple jump GLIAC Indoor Champion.Â
Pole VaultÂ
Elli Kimes and
Carly Livingston placed first and second in the women's pole vault being the only women to clear over 4.00m. Kimes took first clearing the bar at 4.10m, and Livingston placed second with a height of 4.00m.
Kassidie Stimmel tied for third with a distance of 3.75m. Kimes is currently ranked second in the Nation with a height of 4.16m set at the Big Meet- Friday.  On Day One, the men's team placed first, second, and third with
Max Rauch winning the championships with a height of 4.67m.
4x400m RelayÂ
The women's relay team of Brooke Barkocy,
Isabel Abdouch, Deji'ona, and
Taryn Chapko won the race with Chapko pulling ahead of Wayne State in the last leg of the race. The women placed first with a time of 3:56.054. The men's team of Brendon Edoff,
Scott Spaanstra,
Ethan Pyeatt, and
Brenden Faulkner finished third with a time of 3:20.75.Â
The Lakers will head to Pittsburg, Kansas on March 11-12 to compete at NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field Championships where the women will work to defend their 2021 National DII title.
