Records are Made to be Broken

Allendale, Mich. – Elli Kosiba, Myles Kerner, and Brandon Miller broke the GVSU school records in the men's high jump, shot put, and 200m, respectively, at the GVSU Big Meet – Friday on Feb. 11. Kosiba finished first with a personal-best height of 2.19m, and is now ranked first in the Nation with only one week left in the regular season for the Lakers. Myles Kerner is now ranked second in the nation after putting a personal-best distance of 19.29m in the men's shot put claiming first. Brandon Miller broke his own school record in the 200m, set just one week ago. Miller clocked in a personal-best time of 21.54. 
 
"We had some great performances today out our throws and high jumps crews, said head coach Jerry Baltes." "Eli and Jonathan put up some huge marks in the men's high jump, as well as the Elli and Carly in the women's pole vault. Smallwood made great progress in the 60m hurdles running, and our distance team continues to grow. We will continue making progress in order to be ready for the GLIAC Championships in two weeks." 

Riding the waves towards success, Klaudia O'Malley and Elli Kimes put out amazing performances on Friday charting up towards top of the leader board. O'Malley led the last lap of the race and finished first in the women's mile with a personal-best time of 4:44.97. Kimes finished second overall in the women's pole vault with a season-best height of 4.16m and is now sitting in first in the Nation at the DII level. Carly Livingston placed third with a personal-best of 4.06m and is now ranked sixth. 
 
Judith Essemiah beat her own personal-record in the women's weight throw event finishing second and keeping her first place spot in the Division secured for another day with a distance of 20.71m. Alaina Omonode threw a personal-best distance of 18.94m moving up one spot to 13th in the Nation and finished fourth.  
 
Isaac Harding finished first in the men 3000m with a season-best time of 8:00.43, Tanner Chada crossed the line second with a season best time of 8:06.50. Harding is now ranked seventh in DII, followed by Chada in 14th.  Makiyah Smallwood made is his way into the 60m hurdles finals and placed fifth with a personal-best time of 7.93. 
 
Continuing on with the Lakers success, Jonathan Rankins-James finished second in the men's high jump with a personal-best height of 2.15m. Fellow high jumper, Lindsay Strutz claimed first in the women's high jump clearing a personal-best height of 1.62m.  
 
Chanse Setzke finished third in the men's long jump with a season-best distance of 6.94m. Mac Mitchell also had a season-best in the men's triple jump with a distance of 14.00m. 
 
The Lakers are back at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow for Big Meet -Saturday, Feb. 12.
