ALLENDALE, MICH. – In the final nonconference game of the season, the Grand Valley women's basketball team fell to Lewis 69-63.
The two teams traded buckets to open the game, as it was tied at seven apiece three minutes in. Lewis then went on an 8-2 run to take control of the game midway through the quarter. Grand Valley battled back to retake the lead at 17-15 after an 8-0 run. The Flyers responded with a run of their own, ending the quarter on a 6-1 run to take a 21-18 lead after the first quarter.
A jumper from
Hannah Kulas cut the lead to one, but Lewis came right back down and buried a three to go up four. They were able to extend the lead to eight points midway through the quarter, but the Lakers kept battling back and got it down to four at the break, trailing 35-31.
The Lakers started the second half on a 9-0 run to retake the lead at 40-35, capped off by a
Hadley Miller layup. Kulas would drill two threes down the stretch and the Lakers would take a 50-47 lead with 10 minutes to play.
A
Nicole Kamin three pushed the lead to 53-47 minutes into the fourth period. A Flyer 8-0 run gave Lewis the lead once again at 55-53.
Abrie Cabana responded with a three of her own to give the lead back to the Lakers. Lewis made a layup to retake the lead, one that they would not relinquish for rest of the game, as they took the six-point win.
Abrie Cabana led the way with 12 points, while
Hannah Kulas added 11 points.
Ellie Droste,
Rylie Bisballe, and
Paige Vanstee all had eight points.
Hadley Miller had a career-high 10 rebounds 10 rebounds, as the Lakers pulled down 51 as a team.

Grand Valley returns to conference play next weekend, playing at Parkside on Thursday night at 5:30 and then travel to Purdue Northwest on Saturday for a 1:00 matchup.
