GVSU Drops 24-21 Decision In NCAA Quarterfinal Action

Lakers finish the year 12-1

Grand Valley State dropped a 24-21 decision to Ferris State Saturday afternoon before a crowd of 13,001 in NCAA Division II Quarterfinal action. The Lakers finish the year 12-1. 

Ferris State got on the board first with a 1-play, 3-yard drive for a touchdown following a blocked punt. The Lakersevened the scored with a 4-play, 60-yard drive that junior QB Avery Moore finished with an 8-yard TD run. Moore added a second rushing touchdown to culminate an 11-play, 65-yard drive to give GVSU its first lead of the game (14-7). Ferris State tied the game midway through the third quarter with a short scoring drive after taking advantage of the field position game. 

Grand Valley State regained the lead early in the fourth quarter after senior defensive back Antonio Strong picked off a pass and returned it 23 yards to the FSU two yard line. Junior RB Tariq Reid scored on a 2-yard run and sophomore PK Kollin Kralapp added the PAT for a 21-14 Laker lead. Ferris State added 10 fourth quarter points to take a 24-21 lead. 

Reid rushed for 78 yards and one TD on 17 carries, while Moore added 27 rushing yards and two TDs. Junior QB Cade Peterson completed 15-of-29 passes for 190 yards, while sophomore WR Jahdae Walker pulled down four receptions for 85 yards. Sophomore WR Jaylon Tillman chipped in three receptions for 54 yards and Cody Tierney added four catches. 

Junior LB Abe Swanson led the defense with 11 tackles, while sophomore safety Damonte McCurdy chipped in seven stops.
