SEATTLE, WASH. – The Grand Valley State men's and women's cross country team are set to compete at the NCAA Division II National Championships held in Seattle, Washington on Friday, Dec. 2^nd.  The men's 10k will begin at 1:00 p.m (ET), followed by the women's 6k starting at 2:15 p.m (ET). 
 
The Lakers automatically qualified for the National Championships after sweeping the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Nov. 19^th. The women claimed their 21^st consecutive Midwest Regional title, while the Laker men have captured their 20^th consecutive region victory. In addition, both Grand Valley State teams secured the title of GLIAC Champions after taking over the Conference meet back in November. 
 
The Grand Valley State women's team dominated the Top five at the Midwest Regionals, capturing a 1, 2, 3 finish on the day led by Klaudia O'Malley who took home first place with a time of 21:19.17. Lauren Kiley and Natalie Graber claimed second and third for the Lakers with a time of 21:28.65 (Kiley) and 21:29.16 (Graber). The Laker women are no strangers when it comes to taking over the top spots this cross country season, after clenching a perfect 15 point score at the GLIAC Championships for the second time in the Grand Valley State women's program history. 
 
The men's team claimed their title at the Midwest Regionals after clenching a back to back second and third place finish. Tanner Chada and Caleb Futter led the Lakers to a 58 point victory after crossing the line at 30:48.30 (Chada) and 30:53.67 (Futter). In addition, the Laker men finished with six runners in Top 10 at the GLIAC Championships recording an overall score of 28 points and taking home the GLIAC title for the 20^th consecutive year. 
 
Currently, Grand Valley State cross country has a combined total of eight NCAA National Championship titles under their belt, six brought in on the women's side with the remaining two being clenched by the men. 

Last year, the Laker men added to the GVSU trophy case while bringing home their second NCAA Division II National title in St. Leo, Florida. The men beat out Adams State, recording a 43 point overall team score and finishing back to back placing first and second. The Laker women earned 2021 National Runner-Up scoring just 20 points below the National Champions (Adams State). Klaudia O'Malley and Tanner Chada both secured a second place finish last year finishing with a time of 20:26.9 (O'Malley) and 30:07.1 (Chada), earning them the National Cross Country Runner-Up title. 
 
Grand Valley State is looking to repeat their 2018 National Championships appearance, where both teams took home the NCAA Division II National Title.
