The Lakers come off their trip to Nashville with a 1-1 record. GVSU dropped its first game against Southwest Baptist 85-82, but got in the win column against Trevecca Nazarene 82-55.

Luke Toliver dropped 20 points against Southwest Baptist. Toliver went 5-for-7 from the field, including a perfect marks from behind the 3-point line (3-for-3) and the free-throw line (7-for-7). Trevon Gunter followed on Toliver's lead on Saturday against Trevecca Nazarene, scoring 20 points to lead GVSU to victory against the Trojans. Gunter nailed six of his nine 3-point attempts, including back-to-back-to-back triples in a stretch that put the game out of reach for the Lakers.

The Lakers' 82-55 win on Saturday against Trevecca Nazarene marked the first win for head coach Cornell Mann. Mann was hired in April to lead the Lakers and notched his first win this past weekend.

SCOUTING THE OILERS
Findlay comes into the matchup with GVSU with a 1-1 record. The Oilers won their season opener against Quincy, 96-87. Findlay dropped its second game of the season against Truman, 85-74. Nathan Bruns is the Oilers leading scorer, averaging 20 points per game. Bruns is shooting at a 50 percent clip (15-for-30) and is 2-for-6 from 3-point range through two games. Findlay has four other players that are averaging double digits in scoring. Joey Edmonds (14.5), Jagger Landers (12.5), Deven Stover (11.5) and Khalil Luster (11) are all averaging in double figures.

82 IS A MAGIC NUMBER
The Lakers scored 82 points in each of their first two contests of the season. In 2021-22, GVSU scored 82 points on five different occasions and went 5-0. Despite the 1-1 record in GVSU's first two games, it is a promising sign that the Lakers have already scored 82 points or more twice. It took the Lakers of 2021-22 11 games to score 82 points or more twice.

MAKING THE BENCH PRESENCE FELT
The GVSU bench has been crucial to the Lakers so far this season. In the first game against Southwest Baptist, 59 of the Lakers' 82 points came from the reserves. GVSU's bench scored 39 points. All-in-all, 59.8 percent of the Lakers' scoring has come from the bench. Luke Toliver, the Lakers' leading scorer, is averaging 16 points and 3.5 triples per game from the bench. Marius Grazulis has been a spark of energy coming off the bench. Grazulis is averaging 15 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
