Volleyball Readies For One Road And One Home Game This Weekend

Lakers Play Ferris At Ferris On Friday, Before Returning Home To Play LSSU

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley women's volleyball team prepares for their last roadtrip of the year, albeit a short one, as they travel up to Big Rapids on Friday to play Ferris State at 5pm before returning home the next day to play host to Lake Superior State on Saturday at 4pm.
 
GVSU is coming off a big win over rival Davenport on Tuesday, defeating the Panthers 3-1 to move to 8-6 in league play and 15-10 overall. The Lakers are in sixth-place in the GLIAC standings with four conference games to play. The Lakers fell to Ferris in their previous meeting this season 3-1 and they defeated Lake Superior State by that same score in the battle of the Lakers a few weeks ago. Kendall Stover's 249 kills lead the team and rank 10th in the conference, and Rachel Jacquay (515, 8th) and Jordyn Gates (476, 10th) are both in the top ten in assists. Gates is also seventh in the GLIAC with 322 digs, while Jaelianna Primus has totaled 67 blocks to rank ninth.
 
The Bulldogs are the leaders in the conference, coming in at 12-2 in GLIAC play and 17-9 overall, and have won 10 of their last 12 contests, with the only losses coming against Lewis and Wayne State. FSU leads the conference with 1241 kills and 1173 assists, led by the top setter in the GLIAC in Kaylee Maat, who has 1035 assists. Olivia Henneman-Dallape is the top attacker for the Bulldogs, with 290 kills, ranking sixth in the conference. Defensively, Syann Fairfield is third in the league with 81 total blocks, and Leah Bylut's 404 digs rank fourth in the GLIAC. The Bulldogs are the top hitting team in the league, swinging at a .234 clip this season.
 
LSSU has struggled this season, sitting 3-11 in conference and 4-21 overall to currently place ninth in the conference. After only winning one of their first 16 games, Lake State has responded by winning three of their next eight. Setter Emily Kalinowski is fourth in the conference with 834 assists, while Emilee McDaniel is seventh in total blocks at 71. McDaniel is also the top attacker for the Lakers, swinging at a .240 clip to total 204 kills.
