Box Score ROCHESTER—The Grand Valley State men's basketball team opened its 2022-23 competition with a 92-76 loss in an exhibition against Oakland on Thursday night at the Athletics Center O'rena.
 
The Lakers' top scorer was Trevon Gunter. He scored 20 with a strong night from beyond the arc, making six of his 10 3-point attempts. 
 
Austin James and Isaiah Carver-Bagley made a pair of 3-pointers each. Chinedu Kingsley Okanu led the way on the glass for the Lakers, finishing with nine rebounds. Okanu added seven points on the night. 
 
GVSU outrebounded Oakland, winning the battle on the glass 46-38.
 
Jalen Moore led the way for Oakland, scoring 32 points with 23 of those coming in the first half.
 
The Lakers return to the court with an exhibition against Eastern Michigan set for a 7 p.m. tipoff on Thursday in Ypsilanti.
