No. 6 GVSU ties Ferris State 1-1 Sunday Afternoon

Lakers move to 10-1-4 on the season

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 6 Grand Valley State women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Ferris State Sunday (Oct. 16) afternoon at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers move to 10-1-4 on the season, 8-0-3 in GLIAC play, while Ferris State moves to 8-3-4 overall, 6-1-4 in the conference.

Both teams got off a shot in the early going. Ferris State got the first shot of the game that was blocked by the Laker defender. A minute later, Kennedy Metzger intercepted a pass by the Bulldog defender and ripped a shot on goal that was stopped by the keeper. Taylor Reid got off a pair of shots in the 28' and 35' minute that both were just off target.

Emma Chudik had a scoring chance in the 40' minute off a free kick but the Bulldog defender was in great position to make a team save and keep the game scoreless. After the first 45 minutes, the Lakers outshot Ferris State 7-3, 2-0 on goal.

In the second half, the Lakers got on the board in the 51' minute off a beautiful strike by Nina Ferraro who went top shelf from the top left of the box to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead. That goal was Ferraro's third of the season and Metzger picked up the assist. The Lakers created more scoring chances as Kennedy Bearden got two shots on goal that were both saved by the keeper. In the 60' minute, Kendall Robertson made a big save to keep the Lakers ahead by one.

Ferris State found the equalizer in the 72' minute on a free kick from just outside the top left of the box. The Lakers would get a few more chances late but were unable to find the go-ahead goal as the game would end in a draw.

The Lakers had the 14-12 advantage in shots, and 7-2 on goal. Metzger led the Lakers with three shots, two on goal, while Ferraro and Reid each had two shots. Cate Brown and Kennedy Bearden led all field players with 83 minutes played each. Kendall Robertson got the start in goal and made one save.
