Lakers Take on Panthers in the Crosstown Showdown

The Grand Valley State women's basketball team is back in action at home as they matchup with the Davenport Panthers on Monday, Jan. 10 with tip off set for 6:00 p.m. 

The Lakers are sitting in second in the GLIAC and are 4-1 in conference play. Grand Valley is second in the conference in blocks per game (4.0) and third in rebounds per game (40.5). The Lakers are also ranked #16 in the nation in the WBCA NCAA DII Top 25 Coaches Poll and are #3 in the Midwest Region in NCAA DII D2SIDA Region Polls. 

The 11-1 Lakers are coming off of a 65-53 victory over the Northwood Timberwolves on Thursday, Jan. 6. Sophomore Ellie Droste led Grand Valley with 18 points, followed by senior Emily Spitzley and sophomore Rylie Bisballe who also chipped in 13 points a piece. After their win over the Timberwolves, the Lakers are now on a six game winning streak.

Post play from Rylie Bisballe has been a big factor for the Lakers this season. Bisballe is leading the team in scoring with 12.3 points per game, rebounding with 6.5 boards per game, steals (14), and blocks (13). The Lakers are also being led by Emily Spitzley who is averaging 12 points per game and Ellie Droste who is averaging 10.3 points per game.

This is the first Crosstown Showdown between GVSU and DU this season. The 1–12 Davenport Panthers are still looking for their first GLIAC win this season as they are coming off of a 89-49 loss to Northwood on Saturday, Jan. 8. Last year's matchup between the Lakers and Panthers was played first at DU and then a few weeks later in Allendale. The Lakers defeated the Panthers 77-60 on the road and 63-43 at home.
