ALLENDALE, Mich. –  The Grand Valley State track and field program started the new year by hosting the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open on Saturday, Jan 15. The Lakers hit 10 NCAA DII provisional marks, 7 from field events and another 3 from sprints/hurdles.

GVSU Men's weight throw continued to show its strength and dominance this season as
Hunter Harding finished first throwing 20.03m on his first throw of the day, followed by
Myles Kerner in third (PR*19.61m), and Shane Bryne in fourth (18.36m). The men remained consistent as every throw made by Harding, Kerner, and Bryne went past the DII provisional mark of 17.84m.Â

For the second time this season, Kerner made two provisional marks in one meet. Kerner placed second in shot put with a distance of 17.08m putting past the provisional mark 16.38m.
Mackenzie Bohrer finished first in the women's shot put putting a personal-best distance of 13.81m.Â

Alaina Omonode placed first in the women's weight throw, throwing over two meters further than second place. Omonode threw a personal-best distance of 18.29m and surpassed the provisional mark of 17.08m for the second time this season. Omonode had an amazing day as she also had a personal-best in shot put, putting a distance of 13.50m and was just 0.2m from the provisional mark of 13.70m.Â

Makiyah Smallwood and
Jackson Blanchard successfully jumped their way into the 60m hurdles final where Smallwood finished first with a time of 8.05. Blanchard placed third with a time of 8.14. Smallwood currently holds the seventh fastest time in DII with today's win. Blanchard has the fifth fastest time, running a time of 8.03 at the GVSU Holiday Open on Dec. 3.Â

In the 200m, freshman
Brandon Miller finished first with a personal-best time of 21.68 and had his second provisional mark of the season.  Also making the marks as a Freshman,
Jonathan Rankins-James jumped a personal-best height of 2.08m finishing first in the men's high jump and is now tied for fifth in the division.Â

The men's 4x400m relay team of
Brandon Miller,
Caelon Harkey,
Myles Rhodes, and
Jackson Blanchard finished first with a time of 3:18.96.

The Lakers return to the track on Saturday, January 22, hosting the GVSU Mike Lints Alumni Meet. The Laker's will also be sending a group to compete at the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Saturday.Â
