ALLENDALE, Mich. - Grand Valley State men's golf team claimed the team title at the Arendsen Invitational on Monday, Sept. 6 in Allendale, Mich. at The Meadows Golf Course. The Lakers shot a 54-hole 848 (-4), including a 280 (-4) on the final 18 par 71, 7,026-yard course. Findlay finished second with 862 (+10) and Indianapolis in third 870 (+18).
"I am proud of our team for coming out and playing so well this early in the season," said head coach
Gary Bissell. "This was a team effort led by Charlie DeLong, but we received great rounds from everyone. Although, we still have some areas to clean up, this was with a confidence builder no question."
Charles DeLong won the individual title with a 54-hole score of 207 (-6). DeLong added to his lead from day one (-4) as he notched four birdies in the final 18-holes of the invitational.
Nick Krueger moved up two spots to finish fourth on day two with 211 (-2). Krueger was able to go up in the rankings as he shot an eagle on 345-yds par 4 and notched four birdies in the final 18.
Drew Coble moved up three spots and finished tied for 11th scoring 216 (+3). Adding to the final score for the Lakers was
Eric Nunn finishing tied for 13
th carding 217 (+4).
Alex Jordan finished T-18 with a three round total of 221 (+8).
The Laker men will sail off to Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, Sept. 11 to compete at the two day Al Watrous Invitational in Bay City, Mich.
