ASHLAND, Ohio – The Grand Valley State Lakers capped off a weekend sweep of Ashland with another double-digit win on Sunday, 17-3. GVSU picked up their 10
th on the season to enter the final game of the regular season with a 10-2 record.
Molly Bursinger netted the first goal of the game within 40 seconds to set the tone for the rest of the match. Despite the Eagles responding with a goal, the Lakers would return with five unanswered goals. Freshman
Sydney Stone capped off the first half with a hat trick to put GVSU on top after the first 30 minutes, 9-2.
Again, Bursinger recorded the first goal of the half, followed by an additional six goals, with a pair coming from
Caitlin Burnett. Ashland found the back of the net just once in the second half, as Cassady Becker scored with under four minutes left of play.
Sophomore
Audrey Maloney recorded her second win in the net over the Eagles, allowing three goals and saving five attempts. Bursinger and
Aislynn Alkire caused a game-high three turnovers, while Bursinger also led the board in ground balls (3) and draw controls (4). As a team, the Lakers caused 20 turnovers, compared to Ashland's 11.
GVSU concludes the regular season with a trip to Davenport on Tuesday night. Postseason play commences with the GLIAC Tournament (May 7-9) and NCAA Midwest Regionals (May 15) as the Lakers are currently within the top-six teams in the region.
