Grand Valley State dropped a men's and women's dual at nationally-ranked Wingate Friday (Mar. 5) afternoon. The Laker men fell to #16 Wingate 5-2, while the GVSU women fell to #12 Wingate 7-0.
Men
Wingate captured the doubles point with wins at all three slots, however, the Lakers picked up wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
Sebastian Arce claimed a 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 win at No. 5, while
Ignacio Morera-Lucas claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6.
Sean Miller dropped a three set affair at No. 3 singles (6-3, 4-6, 6-4).
Women
Grand Valley State and Wingate battled for over three hours in a match that was tightly contested. Wingate won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The doubles team of
Vasileia Griva and
Sophia Hanover claimed a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
Three of the six singles matches went three sets, while the three that did not were tight.
Vera Griva fell 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while
Taylor Barrett dropped a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 decision at No. 2 singles.
Marija Leko lost a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 3 singles, followed by a
Vasileia Griva loss (6-0, 7-6) at No. 4 singles.
Sophia Hanover fell 7-6, 6-4 at No. 5 singles and
Olivia Huang dropped a 7-6, 3-6, 1-0 decision at No. 6.
