No. 1 Women's Soccer plays to 2-2 tie Sunday

Lakers allow first goal at home since 2016 in draw with Huskies

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 1 Grand Valley State Lakers drew, 2-2, with Michigan Tech Huskies on Sunday (March 21) on the GVSU Turf Field. The Lakers are now 1-0-1 on the season.

Trailing 1-0 at the half, despite out-shooting the Huskies 12-1, the Lakers found the equalizer in the 58' when kennedy Bearden chested home a beautiful cross by Caitie Baron after she was played in on the wing by Lauren Ross. A few minutes later, Chantel Carranza headed home the go-ahead goal off a brilliant insert from Sydney O'Donnell after Morgan Krause found her on the left wing.

In the waning moments of regulation, a set piece in the attacking third allowed the Huskies to tie the match and force overtime. The Lakers had a few chances in the extra periods, but nothing overly threatening as the teams finished tied.

The goals were the first allowed by the Lakers at home since 2016 and first in GLIAC play since the 2018 season. The Lakers will travel to Northwood and Ferris State next weekend. GVSULakers.com and @GVSUSoccer on social media will provide live coverage links and updates.
