The Grand Valley State women's basketball team is back in action this week as they travel to Purdue Northwest on Thursday, Dec. 9, and Parkside on Saturday, Dec. 11. Tip off for Thursday is set for 5:00 p.m. CST (6:00 p.m EST) and tip off for Saturday is set for 1:00 p.m. CST (2:00 p.m. EST).

After Saturday's win over Wayne State, the Lakers are now 1-1 in the GLIAC and 6-1 overall. Currently the Lakers are ranked #19 in the nation in the WBCA NCAA DII Top 25 Coaches Poll and are #4 in the Midwest Region in NCAA DII D2SIDA Region Polls.

The Lakers defeated the Wayne State Warriors in a 72-35 victory on Saturday, giving GVSU their first GLIAC win of the season. The Lakers were led by senior Emily Spitzley who finished with 14 points, six rebounds, and two steals, followed by sophomore Ellie Droste who tallied 13 points. Seniors Emily Spitzley and sophomore Rylie Bisballe are leading the Lakers offensively this season, averaging 13.1 points and 10.9 points respectively.

Purdue Northwest is 0-2 in the GLIAC and 2-5 overall after falling to conference opponents Ferris State and Lake Superior State last week. PNW finished conference play 4-14 last year and finished eleventh in the GLIAC. Due to the shortened GLIAC schedule last year, the Lakers and Pride did not play each other last season. The last GVSU and PNW match up was in January of 2020. The Lakers lead the overall series against the Pride 6-0.

Parkside is 1-1 in the conference and 4-3 overall after defeating Lake Superior State and falling to Ferris State last week. The Rangers finished seventh in the GLIAC last year with a 9-9 conference record. In last year's matchup between the Lakers and Rangers GVSU fell 68-64 in the first game on Friday and won the second game on Saturday 77-54. The Lakers lead the overall series against Parkside 11-3.
