The Grand Valley State women's volleyball team fell in three sets on Thursday, Dec. 2 to Hillsdale College in the NCAA DII Midwest Regional Quarterfinals. The Lakers finished the 2021 season with a record of 17-10.
The Chargers and Lakers played a close set one with neither team being able to pull away more than two or three points from the other. The Lakers trailed 24-21 and after three consecutive attacking errors from the Chargers, the set was tied 24-24. A service error and kill from Hillsdale ended the set 26-24.
The Lakers trailed the entirety of set two and fell 25-19, giving the Chargers a 2-0 advantage heading into the third set. After trailing 5-0 to start the third, GVSU went on an 8-3 run to tie it up at 8-8. However, the Lakers' late efforts weren't enough to push past the Chargers and GVSU fell in the third and final set 25-17.
Grand Valley State was led by senior Ali Thompson who finished the day with 16 kills and 14 digs, followed by senior Abby Graham who tallied seven kills and seven digs. Freshman libero finished with 12 digs and junior setter Rachel Jacquay dished out 27 assists for the Lakers.
