GVSU Women’s Basketball to Host Aquinas and Travel to Lewis

Lakers Pause Conference Play Until January 6

The GVSU women's basketball team will take a break from conference play as they host Aquinas on Friday, Dec. 17 and travel to Lewis on Monday, Dec. 20. 

The Lakers are looking to extend their three game winning streak. After defeating Purdue Northwest and Parkside last weekend, GVSU advances to 3-1 in the GLIAC and 8-1 overall. Currently the Lakers are ranked #18 in the nation in the WBCA NCAA DII Top 25 Coaches Poll and are #4 in the Midwest Region in NCAA DII D2SIDA Region Polls. 

GVSU is coming off of two wins last weekend as the Lakers defeated Purdue Northwest 73-49 and Parkside 71-57. Sophomore Rylie Bisballe led the Lakers with 28 points and 17 rebounds, followed by senior Emily Spitzley who finished with 28 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Ellie Droste also finished with 27 points over the weekend. 

The Aquinas Saints are 9-7 overall after defeating Taylor University last weekend. This will be the first Lakers-Saints matchup since the Lakers last hosted the Saints in 2017. GVSU defeated Aquinas 68-55 and leads the overall series 18-12. The Lewis Flyers advance to 3-6 after defeating St. Francis (Ill.) and McKendree last weekend. The Lakers last played the Flyers in 2019, where GVSU defeated Lewis 72-57. Grand Valley leads the overall series 14-9.
