No. 1 GVSU beats Parkside, 2-0, Tuesday in GLIAC Quarterfinal

Lakers to face Northern Michigan Friday in Allendale

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 1 Grand Valley State Lakers begin post-season play with a 2-0 win over the Parkside Rangers Tuesday (Nov. 9) in the GLIAC Quarterfinals Tuesday afternoon. GVSU improves to 17-0-2 on the year and will host the tournament semifinals and championship this weekend. The Lakers face 5-seed Northern Michigan at 5:00 PM Friday in the first of two semifinal contests.

The Lakers had 20 shots, including 10 on goal, in the first half but were held to just one tally. Mackenzie Jones scored her third goal of her career after Taylor Reid played a smart ball to the top of the box to set it up. All three of Jones' goals have come against Parkside.

Despite dominating possession again in the second half, the only other goal was a penalty kick with under a minute to go by freshman Hannah Becker. It was the first penalty the Lakers have converted this season.
