The No. 4 Grand Valley State Lakers will host the No. 5 Davenport Panthers in the 2021 GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 7:00 p.m.Â
The Lakers wrapped up their regular season this past weekend at Wisconsin Parkside, where GVSU defeated the Rangers for the second time this season. Grand Valley State finished the regular season with a GLIAC record of 10-4 and overall record of 17-8. The Lakers finished second in the GLIAC South Division and fourth overall in the GLIAC.Â
The Lakers are currently second in the GLIAC in kills (1237) and kills per set (13.45), as well as third in assists (1120). Junior setter Rachel Jacquay continues to lead the conference in assists with 981 assists this season. Jacquay is averaging 10.66 assists per set. Junior attacker Sarah Wight is amongst the top five blockers in the conference, averaging .93 blocks per set. Wight has tallied a team high 78 blocks this season.Â
This will be the third match up between the Lakers and the Panthers, as GVSU leads the series this season 2-0. The Lakers won on the road at Davenport earlier this season in a four set victory (25-22, 25-19, 21-25, 27-25) and again at home on Oct. 30 (25-17, 25-13, 18-25, 25-13).Â
After finishing third in the GLIAC South Division, Davenport entered the tournament as the No. 5 seed. The Panthers finished 7-7 in regular season GLIAC play and 15-11 overall. DU is third in the GLIAC in kills (1217) and digs (1553) this season. The Lakers will have to slow down senior attacker Hayley Kreiger, as she leads the conference in kills (429) and kills per set (4.33). GVSU leads the overall series between the Lakers and the Panthers 6-5.Â
