Lakers Travel to Saginaw Valley and Wayne State

The Grand Valley State volleyball team is back on the road this weekend as they travel to Saginaw, Mich. on Saturday, Oct. 9 to compete against conference opponent Saginaw Valley State at 2:00 p.m. The Lakers will be back in action again at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10 against the Wayne State Warriors. 

The Lakers currently lead the GLIAC South Division with a conference record of 5-1 and overall record of 9-5. After defeating the University of Wisconsin Parkside and Purdue University Northwest at home last weekend, the Lakers are tied for second overall in the GLIAC with Wayne State University. 

Grand Valley State leads the GLIAC in blocks (127) and kill percentage (.238). Junior Sarah Wight is leading the GLIAC in blocks (64) and blocks per set (1.36). Junior setter Rachel Jacquay is first in the GLIAC in assists (561) this season. 

The Lakers match up with Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, Oct. 9. The Cardinals are fifth in the GLIAC North Division with a conference record of 1-3 and overall record of 9-3. GVSU will be well-matched defensively at the net as Saginaw Valley is leading the GLIAC in blocks per set (2.48). The Lakers lead the overall series against the Cardinals, 68-14. 

On Sunday, Oct. 10, the Lakers will travel to Wayne State University. Grand Valley State and Wayne State are currently tied with a 5-1 GLIAC record and the Warriors are second in the GLIAC North Division. The Warriors are sitting at 11-3 overall and are coming off of a win to Northern Michigan. Grand Valley State is leading the overall series 53-35.
